2nd Place at the 2026 SPE Energython

After winning the European finals of the SPE Energython, IFP School’s “Vélogas” team placed second at the international finals, held on October 9 at ConocoPhillips’ headquarters in Houston, Texas.

A total of 137 teams from 22 countries participated in this student challenge organized by the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE). Under the theme “From Molecule to Megabyte,” the 2026 edition invited participants to draw connections between the physical energy system and the growing demand for digital infrastructure.

The Vélogas team consisted of: Baptiste Armengol, Luke Giffen, and Léonard Stockel—all three students in the Energy Technology Economics and Management program—as well as Gautier Pollet-Villard, an apprentice at TotalEnergies and a student in the Petroleum Engineering and Project Development program. Together, they represented the IFP School SPE Student Chapter.

Congratulations to Baptiste, Luke, Léonard, and Gautier, who—in IFP School’s first-ever participation in the SPE Energython—secured a remarkable second place internationally!
